Author takes edits to heart and rolls up her sleeves…

Kudos to Acorn Author Services’ author Holly Kammier for her persistence and fortitude.

Holly was provided with major timeline edits on what must be the fourth or fifth version of her novel, Kingston Court. As easy as it would have been to ignore the edits and go with the manuscript as it is…because seriously, when a writer has re-worked a book this many times would you blame them for throwing their hands up and saying, “forget it”, Holly rolled up her sleeves and got to work. She went through the entire manuscript, wrote out a new timeline, and then changed all of the seasonal references throughout.

Not giving up and being willing to accept editing challenges is one of the hallmarks of a successful writer.

Bravo Holly!!

20 Words We Owe to William Shakespeare

I find it wonderful some very common words we used today can be traced back to their creation by William Shakespeare.

Making your writing shine! Words to avoid.

As writers we all have our “go to” words. They are the comfortable, just been wrapped in a warm blanket out of the dryer words we throw in because, well…honestly we haven’t given any thought to not using them.

Here is a list of words to avoid, why to avoid them, and ways to make your writing stronger by not using them.

Happy Writing!

You’ve rewritten your manuscript how many times???

Rewriting

You’ve written the last word of your manuscript, so you’re done right? Wrong my friend, you are just beginning. Now comes the detail work, editing and rewriting until you’ve stripped it down, buffed it up, and having it sparkling.

The first version you wrote was a starting point, like the foundation of a house. If you’re a seasoned writer, maybe you have the beams and walls up, but there are some areas which need straightening up. Perhaps there was a decorators’ clearance sale and you “over decorated” your manuscript with every little detail you could think of. Now comes the time to look at the big picture and see what needs to get tossed out in order to create a pleasing, uncluttered read. Then again, you could fall into any number of types of writers in between.

No matter the case, know that rewriting and reworking your story is part of the process EVERY writer goes through. View it as an opportunity to make your work shine!
